My current project concerns the general question: What are Aristotle’s views on the relation between the individual and the city-state/community? My primary thesis, which spells out one such relation, is that the happiness of the individual consists in using their virtue for the benefit of the common good – i.e., in ruling.
A secondary, related thesis, which aims to explicate another such relation, is that Aristotle's claim that the city-state is prior in nature to the individual can be made sense of by reflection on his biological works.
